I’ve always loved exploring my environment- from balancing on top of fences throughout the neighbourhood as a seven year old, wagging school to build tree huts at the age of eight, to tramping and learning about conservation in the rugged Kawhia bush reserves as a teenager.
Our family was expelled from the Pauanui camp ground in the early 70s- for possession of a canine. Not to be deterred, my mother embarked on an exploration of areas from the Bay of Islands to Gisborne with just the tent, the 5 kids and a double burner gas stove- and of course, the dog.
