FILM MAKING

I completed a Bachelor of Communications in 2005. Originally planning to major in journalism, after my first taste of digital video making I was hooked. So I did a TV and film major instead, learning everything about production- from writing to the finished product you might see on the box- or at the box office.

This year I’ve got a couple of short documentaries scheduled to be broadcast on Maori Television. They’re about New Zealand jazz musicians who’ve made huge contributions to this countries musical heritage. The first doco Epi’s Band features a band who ruled the Auckland dance scene for over 20 years- since the mid-thirties. And what a scene it was- bands played live music six nights a week at local dance halls and private parties. The band leader was Epi Shalfoon, of Maori and Lebanese descent.
