" The Best Job in the World"
Here's lil old me, just quietly trying to get " the Best Job in the World" As I've mentioned before, it's the job in Hamilton Island, Oz, where you just go on amazing adventures, film and take pics, write a blog and get paid heaps. If I get the job I'll be working on the angle of eco tourism...raising awareness of the Great Barrier Islands' delicate coral reef and the threats to it, as well as the marine life.
The job's only for six months though- so the carriage turns back into a pumpkin after midnight in month six (Dec 2009). Well I made a wee video application as requested by Tourism Queensland who promoted the whole thing...and shortlisted candidates are being announced in TWO days. So check it out and rate it...I might just get to be as famous as Britney! (yeah right Get in now and see it...at islandreef.com then applicants, by country, NZ and my name...Francine...(yes, I'm spelling it out, coz Kiwi vids are hard to find on the main page) or follow this link: http://islandreefjob.com/applicants/watch/LRDfe6jxnWI Take a look! TEACHING
Teaching offers a great creative challenge. Anyone can be boring and bossy and hand out detentions- but I’ve never done things that way. I work on the premise that a teacher should find a student’s level, and then encourage them to raise the bar. I aim to do this by treating all students with respect, and facilitating their learning by providing interesting and relevant resources. I also work on praising progress, inviting student feedback and generally encouraging the confidence to take risks in performance.
In 2008 I taught over 120 students on a range of instruments. I took twelve soloists and five bands to the Lewis Eady Junior Music Competition. Many received gold and silver awards for their efforts. I received a warm fuzzy feeling- I felt so proud of all of them!
Some students have stayed with me for many years, and it’s been a source of joy for me to see these students travel the world with their school bands, excelling in music exams and performances. It’s extremely rewarding too to see one of my senior students leading his school jazz band and beginning to teach others as well.
ADVENTURES
I’ve always loved exploring my environment- from balancing on top of fences throughout the neighbourhood as a seven year old, wagging school to build tree huts at the age of eight, to tramping and learning about conservation in the rugged Kawhia bush reserves as a teenager.
Our family was expelled from the Pauanui camp ground in the early 70s- for possession of a canine. Not to be deterred, my mother embarked on an exploration of areas from the Bay of Islands to Gisborne with just the tent, the 5 kids and a double burner gas stove- and of course, the dog. We camped wherever we could- and in so doing discovered some wonderful spots that now have official camp grounds- places where I now take my own brood. Check out some of the clips from the

FILM MAKING
I completed a Bachelor of Communications in 2005. Originally planning to major in journalism, after my first taste of digital video making I was hooked. So I did a TV and film major instead, learning everything about production- from writing to the finished product you might see on the box- or at the box office.
This year I’ve got a couple of short documentaries scheduled to be broadcast on Maori Television. They’re about
